A Study on the Standard Glucose Tolerance Test and Liver Function Tests in Patients with Various Liver Diseases
Hur Du-Young

Chang Ko-Chang
Abstract
To compare the degree of the glucose intolerance and liver function in various liver diseases oral glucose tolerance test and biochemical liver function eat were performed in ten healthy subjects, twelve cases of viral hepatitis, fifteen of liver cirrhosis, and sixteen of hepatoma who were admitted to Hanyang University Hospital from March, 1973 to April, 1974.
The results were as follows:
1) Glucose tolerance tests were within norma1 range in patients with viral hepatitis, but significantly abnormal in patients with liver cirrhosis and hepatoma.
2) Seventy-three per cent of cirrhotic patients and sixty-three per cent of hepatona patients revealed the abnormal tolerance on glucose tolerance tests.
3) Albumin levels were significantly lower in glucose intolerant patients than in normal glucose tolerant patients, and the levels of alkaline phosphatase and thymol turbidity test were more increased in the former group than in the latter, but no differences in hepatoma patients.
4) The highest level of the blood glucose was at 90 minute in patients with liver cirrhosis and hepatoma and the maximal difference of blood, glucose level. between control subjects and patients of liver-cirrhosis and hepatoma was at 180 minute on glucose tolerance test.
